White Failed to Impress I wanted to impress you, | English Poetry

"White Failed to Impress I wanted to impress you, Tried a few times, but never knew, I would fail each time and rue. You may not believe’t, but ’tis true. Every time I tried, deterrents came. My love for you, I couldn’t claim. I am irresolute if all my attempts were lame, And impressing you was ne’er my game. Once I saw you at a lonely place. I tried to reach you, and embrace; But I fell flat, couldn’t take my pace. ’Twas dumb of me to think I’d succeed apace. Then, one day, you suddenly showed up on my way; I looked at you with glee, and whispered a “hey!” Thought I almost made’t, you’d hold’nd take me away. I failed again, you didn’t accept me; left me in dismay. I failed to impress you, dear Death! I felt almost accepted when my health deteriorated, And I was lying in a hospital bed; I was waiting and wanting to be dead. But you didn't let it betide, Just came to make your visit and deride. Tell me, dear Death, where you went to hide? When will you return? I am waiting for you, this side. ©Saurav Banerjee"

 White Failed to Impress

I wanted to impress you,
Tried a few times, but never knew,
I would fail each time and rue.
You may not believe’t, but ’tis true.

Every time I tried, deterrents came.
My love for you, I couldn’t claim.
I am irresolute if all my attempts were lame,
And impressing you was ne’er my game.

Once I saw you at a lonely place.
I tried to reach you, and embrace;
But I fell flat, couldn’t take my pace.
’Twas dumb of me to think I’d succeed apace.

Then, one day, you suddenly showed up on my way;
I looked at you with glee, and whispered a “hey!”
Thought I almost made’t, you’d hold’nd take me away.
I failed again, you didn’t accept me; left me in dismay.

I failed to impress you, dear Death!
I felt almost accepted when my health deteriorated,
And I was lying in a hospital bed;
I was waiting and wanting to be dead.

But you didn't let it betide,
Just came to make your visit and deride.
Tell me, dear Death, where you went to hide?
When will you return? I am waiting for you, this side.
